Breaking Barriers: My First Email Campaign

Podcasting Observations

by Dave Jackson

Pushed Out of My Comfort Zone

I recently hired a business coach who nudged me into uncharted territory—email campaigns. Up until then, I'd sent emails like this one, but never with the explicit intent of making a sale. This challenge pushed me out of my comfort zone.

I embarked on a journey to understand various types of emails, each serving a distinct purpose, and scheduled them accordingly. It felt strange, and I was plagued with thoughts like, "What if nobody buys anything?" Sending out emails or podcasts with no sales intent is one thing—you can brush it off because, technically, you weren't trying to sell. But when you actively try and fail, it's easy to spiral into negativity.

I reminded myself that this was my maiden campaign, and if no one signed up, it was okay. I gained invaluable knowledge. You either win or learn—and sometimes, you do both. For instance, I learned the importance of setting your countdown timer accurately after mine mistakenly ended the sale 24 hours early—DOH! Ultimately, people did sign up.

When anxiety strikes, dig deeper to understand its origin. If it's because you're attempting something new, celebrate it. Anxiety is normal. Document everything, and aim to either win or learn—ideally, both.

Podcasting Observations by Dave Jackson Do Podcasters Want Feedback? Maybe I’m weird (we may have established that previously), but I love when I got constructive feedback or praise. Maybe it goes back to when I was a waiter. If someone complained, I had a chance to fix the issue and still get a tip. In fact, if you solved an upset customer’s problem, you often had a customer for life. In the past I’ve offered reviews/audits of podcasters (these are part of your subscription to the School of...

Podcasting Observations by Dave Jackson Using AI To Keep Me Focused I was getting ready to record an episode. I had my one sentence summary: “You don’t have to be the best at something to influence them. Case in point: Ace Frehley.” It’s one of those “Dave talks about a dead person and relates their talent to podcasting” thing that I do. So I had my bullet points and hit record. Thirty eight minutes later I listened to it and thought I was done. It was Wednesday. Sunday when I went to edit...

Podcasting Observations by Dave Jackson Oh I Didn’t Think About That So I bought a NEEWER MS60B LED Video Light along with NEEWER 35”/90cm Octagonal Softbox. Any time I see someone using a Softbox, I just think they look “this much” better. So when they went on sale at Amazon I pulled the tigger. Then I needed something to hang the lights on my poll going across my ceiling. So there is that additional price for the NEEWER Super Clamp. It was more or less a $300 lesson. So what happened? This...
