Let's Talk Best Practices

Podcasting Observations

Did I Detect Some Snark?

So I was at the Empowered Podcasting Conference over the weekend. It’s a fun conference in a fabulous location and I got to speak, make some new friends and catch up with some old friends.

One speaker was urging people to not copy other people. I agree with that, but they also said the phrase “Best Practices” in the same way one might say “8-Track Tapes.” In that you expected them to say “Ugh… Podcast Best Practices…”

Now this might just be me as there is a difference between “don’t copy other people” and “ignore podcasting best practices.”

Think about it, “Don’t touch a hot stove” is a “Best Practice.” I tend to follow that one.

When I tell people to be sure and ask your audience to share it with a friend it’s because when a friend shares something with me, I tend to click on it. Hence, I would count, “Encourage your audience to share your show” as a best practice.

Sometimes they will throw in an “OG Best Practices” as if something old won’t work today. Remarkable content never goes out of style.

In the end, don’t hesitate to trying new things as all of our audiences are different and will potentially react differently. Work with your audience and give them what they need in an educational or entertaining way (or both!). In my travels, they gets you going in the right direction.

1 of 10 YouTube Thumbnails and more

I mentioned this a few editions ago when it was just YouTube Thumbnails, but now it does a ton more. Now it can help with ideas, titles, thumbnails, niche focus, competitor tracking, and shorts tools. At $39/month I thought it was a bit pricy for a “thumbnail creator” but now it does a whole lot more, I keep revisiting their site.

Coming Soon

I have an interview with someone who was able to score some brand partnerships while still having a smaller audience on deck. I also have an episode coming out Monday that combines podcasting and Ace Frehley.

Podcasting Observations by Dave Jackson Using AI To Keep Me Focused I was getting ready to record an episode. I had my one sentence summary: “You don’t have to be the best at something to influence them. Case in point: Ace Frehley.” It’s one of those “Dave talks about a dead person and relates their talent to podcasting” thing that I do. So I had my bullet points and hit record. Thirty eight minutes later I listened to it and thought I was done. It was Wednesday. Sunday when I went to edit...

Podcasting Observations by Dave Jackson Oh I Didn’t Think About That So I bought a NEEWER MS60B LED Video Light along with NEEWER 35”/90cm Octagonal Softbox. Any time I see someone using a Softbox, I just think they look “this much” better. So when they went on sale at Amazon I pulled the tigger. Then I needed something to hang the lights on my poll going across my ceiling. So there is that additional price for the NEEWER Super Clamp. It was more or less a $300 lesson. So what happened? This...

I call that a win-win. Well This Looks Weird One thing I’ve learned this week is to think before opening your mouth. You might even do a hint of research. We’ve all heard about Inception Point. This is the company that has AI make 3000 episodes a week and if they get more than 20 downloads it’s profitable. I heard the...
