The Silent Benefits of Podcasting

The Other Benefits of Podcasting

This past weekend we watched what might (should?) be the last performance by the OGs of Heave Metal Black Sabbath. The Great Ozzy Osbourne commanding a crowd while sitting in a chair as he no longer can stand up for long periods. As someone who has love Ozzy for decades it was great to see a crowd make him smile as he was doing what he loves, but also somewhat melancholy as this might just be the last time we ever see him.

I thought we could put down the monetization talk for a second and talk about the silent benefits (because nobody talks about them).

The first one is legacy. I was working with a Podpage client this week who has a terminal disease so he wants to get this thoughts out as quickly as possible. We all won't live forever but can't. With a little planning, our words can.

The second is refuge. I did an episode about how to podcast and stay married. I got a note from someone in a horrible marriage and they said they loved their podcast as it made them feel heard, and when they were in their studio, they felt safe. There is the Nine Inch Nails song that goes, "I hurt myself today to see if I still feel." I think when we are going through stuggles we might record ourselves to see if we still exist, and when we see a download it' validation that we exist. If you're in that situation, podcasting can help, but I would urge you to consider therapy.

I have been told that podcasting is the best $20 therapy on the planet.

Podcasting Observations by Dave Jackson Do Podcasters Want Feedback? Maybe I’m weird (we may have established that previously), but I love when I got constructive feedback or praise. Maybe it goes back to when I was a waiter. If someone complained, I had a chance to fix the issue and still get a tip. In fact, if you solved an upset customer’s problem, you often had a customer for life. In the past I’ve offered reviews/audits of podcasters (these are part of your subscription to the School of...

Podcasting Observations by Dave Jackson Using AI To Keep Me Focused I was getting ready to record an episode. I had my one sentence summary: “You don’t have to be the best at something to influence them. Case in point: Ace Frehley.” It’s one of those “Dave talks about a dead person and relates their talent to podcasting” thing that I do. So I had my bullet points and hit record. Thirty eight minutes later I listened to it and thought I was done. It was Wednesday. Sunday when I went to edit...

Podcasting Observations by Dave Jackson Oh I Didn’t Think About That So I bought a NEEWER MS60B LED Video Light along with NEEWER 35”/90cm Octagonal Softbox. Any time I see someone using a Softbox, I just think they look “this much” better. So when they went on sale at Amazon I pulled the tigger. Then I needed something to hang the lights on my poll going across my ceiling. So there is that additional price for the NEEWER Super Clamp. It was more or less a $300 lesson. So what happened? This...
